Equipping Zidane, Garnet, Vivi, and Steiner with Support Ability Gear enables you to equip them with the relevant Support Ability.
Using magic stones to equip Support Abilities will allow you to unleash their various effects.

By fulfilling certain conditions in battle, Zidane, Garnet, Vivi, and Steiner will each fill their Trance Gauges. When a character's Trance Gauge fills to the max, that character will enter a Trance for a certain number of turns, giving them special buffs.
Take advantage of your Trances, and turn the tides of battle!

Certain towns and dungeons will have a "Synthesist" who can combine your special equipment or items, or even make entirely new special equipment for you.
